For AP Calc BC, Mr. Mai has his signature "authentic learning, " which basically means "optional homework and I strongly encourage you to come get help in office hours. " I had him in his third year teaching the class, and our class oftentimes had to self-study with Khan Academy. He loves when people interact during class and will hold office hours before school, at snack, lunch, and after school. He also offered "interview retakes, " which basically meant that if you got a really bad quiz score you could interview with him to see if you got better afterwards, then retake the quiz for full credit. The lines are often super long, but he has a huge heart and will try to accommodate all the students to the best of his ability. Ask him questions during class and after class, as it's probably the best way to stay engaged with his long lectures about silly jokes and calc.

From Math III, You really don't have to do the homeworks because it's not graded. You only do those if you struggle on a topic. He's very approachable and always willing to help if there's a topic you don't understand and he's open for improvements and conaiderate for students who learns a different way. Exams and quizzes are retakable in case you got a bad grade on it but not retakable on finals.
