This is for AP Chem: Very chill teacher for the most part. You will be on your own for the labs and have to think critically. Tests are very important and it is essential that you understand all the concepts behind the calculations so you can adapt during the tests. For the AP test you will have to learn and study a lot of the concepts on your own. Don't take this class if you are not strong in math. I'd recommend only AP Calculus level students take this class.
This review is for AP Chemistry, but be aware that Centeno teaches both AP Chem and Biology Honors. For AP Chem, this should be a given, but memorize your ions. In addition, pay attention - it's very easy to get distracted as you'll be using chromebooks almost all the time. Tests are around 50% of your grade, quizzes 20%, HW 20%, labs 10%, and there's a maximum of 2% extra credit. If you fail a test or quiz, don't worry, as he allows you to do corrections, and if they are adequate, he'll raise your test score to a C-. Tests are given sporadically (usually every 1. 5 months) and are two days long. One day is multiple choice and the other is free response. You must master both in order to succeed on the AP test. Quizzes first semester are multiple choice and every two weeks, while second semester, they're free response and every week. HW is 2-6 problems from the textbook, and is given out twice a week. It should take no more than 20 minutes. Some of your class time will be dedicated to labs (titrations, spectroscopy, etc). Personally, labs are the funnest part of AP Chem as you always do them in groups and get to act like mad scientists. 85% of Chem H is AP material - the only thing in AP you don't learn in Honors is Kinetics, but be aware that in AP you go much more conceptual. Math is not enough. Don't fear AP Chem - if you passed Chem H (C- or higher), expect a B+ or higher in AP.
