AP European History as taught by Mr. Van Rossum was my favorite course I've ever taken for a number of reasons. First, the topic of European History extended from early Medieval Ages to contemporary Europe, which provided interesting insight. By examining such a long time period, it was possible to identify trends in European culture and patterns of political thought that developed throughout the continent from the beginning to the end of the course. I adore being able to partake in in-depth analysis such as the aforementioned, and the opportunity to approach European History with the sense that it was more of a series of developments than one of spontaneity made the class particularly enjoyable. The other factor that made the class so captivating to me was Mr. Van Rossum's idiosyncratic style of teaching. Mr. Van Possum was able to integrate lecture style lessons with comprehensive and clear notes (which is especially difficult because of the complexity of the subject). However, most rewarding was the fact that Mr. Van Rossum also made sure to create a class in which students could engage, both through discussion and debate, which allowed myself and other classes to become better familiarized with the course materials.
