Before I begin, I would like to address that this is one of the worst classes I've ever had. Every single time I was in her Graphic Design class I was left in the dark. there are several aspects of her class that ruin the learning experience. Everything from the lack or organization, communication, and bias. Firstly, assignments are typically posted on Google Classroom with little to no instructions. For instance, once I had a re branding assignment during the quarantine and work was submitted online exclusively. Ms. Horhager only included the title of the assignment and the only instructions that she included was, "Please upload here". Obviously, numerous students and myself were unsure of what expectations to meet. Students even sent numerous emails to her with questions regarding the assignment, but she rarely bothered to answer them. The worst part is that when she reveals a few expectations or instructions, the assignment would be due in a few days. Additionally, the marking system in this class is inherently flawed. Throughout an entire semester, the only mark I received was a final mark. Never in any of the assignments did I receive a mark or feedback. I see this as a problem because it makes it difficult for students like myself to monitor their mark and potentially correct mistakes they've made. The worst part is that the marking scheme seems very biased. There were students in the class who rarely handed in assignments but received an 80% as their final mark. Meanwhile, I diligently worked on every assignment, only to finish the course with an identical 80%. Clearly, the mark distribution makes no sense and doesn't appropriately recognize a student's effort. Ms. Horhager seemingly distributes marks randomly as I noticed that there were only 5 unique marks in my class, 70%, 80%, 85%, 90% and 95%. Overall, I believe that this was one of the most classes I've ever had. Numerous students find the coursework too vague with instructions and hard to monitor individual success in the class. If you planned on taking one of her classes as an attempt to boost your average, I would drop her class if the option is available. The mark distribution is too random that you may as well take another class taught by a responsible teacher where you may receive a mark that truly reflects your effort. Additionally, her teaching is very lackluster and you would probably learn more from sites such as YouTube, Skillshare or Udemy.
