Took Gr. 10 Gifted Math with Timmerman online. Was not a great experience due to the pace of the course (very slow). However, with 12AP Advanced Functions/Calculus, there was an abundance of content and things to study. You need to do homework practice before each quiz/test. However, if you want to find past tests, Timmerman does reuse tests. He is very strict on form and requires that everything is legible & clear, which does prepare you well with good habits for future mathematics. He rarely responds to emails, so make sure to talk to him after class. He always has extra help sessions (one of the only teachers to do so) and genuinely cares about his students succeeding in his class.
Timmerman reuses the exact same tests every year copied word for word. Many people have gotten easy 99s this way. The tests are not hard but his marking is strict, you must do exactly the way he does things. It is possible to get 1/5 after showing all your work and getting the correct final answer. For example when solving a quadratic (x+3)(x-1) = 0 you can not just say x=-3 x=1 you must show x+3=0 or x-1=0 so x=-3 or x=1 (ZPP) For grade 12 advanced functions he gives back 2 assessments by midterms, so you really only have one chance for a good midterm mark. (He gave back unit 1 test on midterms, took 2 months to mark, and he does this on purpose every year) After midterms tests/quizzes come back in 1 month. He strictly does not allow using cell phones or talking or doing anything other than listen in class. He will expose you in front of the class every time you do that. Otherwise he is an excellent teacher. Extremely neat hand writing, loud, sometimes makes dad jokes, good explanation, good way of showing work, teaches students to follow best practices that may not seem useful now but his style of teaching/marking will happen in university especially when you do proofs so better get used to it now. He also boosted the ENTIRE class final mark in ACADEMIC math (no other math teacher does this). People with 87 boosted to 90, people with 98 to 99.
Focus on the examples in the notes given out more than the textbook work
not all the test material is reviewed in class, never tells you what is actually on his test/quizzes
Grade 10 maths is a little hard, but if you're naturally good at it you'll be fine.
