NEVER fool around in class as he gets mad when you do it. Mr.Kettle cares about you succeeding in his class so he will get angry if you play on your phone during his lesson. Although his music theory lessons can be boring, PAY ATTENTION and TAKE NOTES during his lectures as they will help you ACE your exams.

The essays are worth A LOT of your mark, so put effort into them! The tests are simple. Excessive studying isn’t required but is recommended. As for band practice, attend it. Mr. Kettle tells you himself that he can’t change your grade if you choose not to attend, but he may go easier on you in terms of grading. If you need help or some time to practice, come in during lunch; he’s usually always available then. Before and after school varies depending on if there’s a band practice, but you can come in those times too. Attend the concerts as well. You might be scared or just lazy, I don’t know, but attend them anyways. It’s a fun experience! Take your instrument home as much as you can (if it’s large or heavy, take it home FOR SURE during holidays like March or winter break). Take initiative! Volunteer for questions or whatnot even if you get the answer wrong. When it comes to playing tests (which there aren’t many of), try to be one of the first ones, unless you’re sure you’ll butcher it. He doesn’t lie when he says he’ll go easier on you. All in all, at the end of the day, just do your work and be respectful and you’ll be fine. Besides, unless you screw up big time, I don’t think the guy marks below an 85-

- the instrument video assignment and music essays are worth a large portion of your mark, so take the time to do it! - there aren't as many playing tests as you'd expect for a music class - the music theory he covers is extremely basic - showing up to practice is very important as he may make changes to pieces in order to improve sound quality
