For Canadian History 10, I would study the notes thoroughly. She really like testing your knowledge of key dates, like the year of Germany's surrender in WW2, the date of Nagasaki's atom bomb drop, etc. Also she sometimes gives bonus questions in tests, so I would recommend paying attention to random things discussed in class, EVEN IF SHE EXPLICITLY SAYS THEY WILL NOT BE ON THE TEST.
I'd say to actually read the books... a lot of people choose to just "spark notes" it, but you won't do well in the course without understanding the material. The books are hard, and writing essays come a heck of a lot easier when you know the material well enough -- pinpointing themes and attaching evidence to them is easier if you remember what happened you know? Ms. Saplys is very reasonable in terms of quote identification, she will always give relevant quotes that she talked about in class. If she reads from the book during her summaries, MARK THOSE PAGES!!
