Assignments count for a very small percentage of your grade. But if you don't do them, you likely won't pass the exam. Do the assignments if not for the marks, for the learning experience.

Look up your needed material on other sites as well as what the teacher gives you, as its good to get an understanding from perspectives other than the one teacher.
